Its is now a trend in a town in Canton to consume baby herbal soup to increase health and sexual
performance/stamina. The cost in China currency (RMB) is approximately RMB4000 which is about USD585. A factory manager was interviewed and he testified that it is effective and he is a frequent customer. Expensive herbs, chicken meat are added to boil or steam together with the baby with for 8 hours.

He pointed to his second wife next to him, who is 19 (he is 62), and testifies that they
have sex everyday. After waiting for a couple of weeks, he took the reporter to the
restaurant when he was informed by restaurant Manager that the spare rib soup
(local code for baby soup) was now available.

This time, it was a couple who already have 2 daughters and the one on the way confirmed to be
a daughter again. So the couple aborted the baby which was 5 months old. Babies
close to be born and die naturally are sold to the restaurant for about RMB 2000 (USD 292) while those that are aborted are sold for cost few hundreds in Renminbis. Couples who do not want sell their dead babies, can instead sell the placentas for couple of hundreds Renminbi.

The reporter commented that this problem arises from the Chinese people are now very particular about not only longevity in terms of life but also sexual longevity.Perhaps this could also be the negative effect of China’s one child policy since the majority prefer to have sons hence those poorer families may end up selling their female babies.
